Abstract

Human capital is a crucial factor in innovation and economic development. As the knowledgebased economy continues to grow, the role of highly educated and skilled individuals becomes increasingly
important. This study investigates the long-run influence of human capital on innovation and economic
growth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for the period 2010-2012. Using statistical and
econometric methods for panel data, we find that human capital has a positive and significant impact on
innovation and economic growth in MENA countries. Additionally, population density in some age groups
(more educated people) also has a similar effect on patents in MENA countries. The study highlights the
importance of increasing human capital investment and decreasing dependence on the oil industry to
regulate economic relations among MENA countries and increase innovation and economic growth.
