The constantly evolving digital landscape has challenged organizations to adapt and implement
digital transformation strategies. However, many of these strategies fail due to a lack of consideration for
corporate culture. This paper explores the role of corporate digital culture in digital strategizing and
emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach that incorporates business, IT/IS, and change
management strategies aligned with the organization's culture. To support our argument, we conducted a
systematic literature review of 57 papers published between 1990 and 2022 that focused on digital
transformation, digital culture, and corporate culture. Our analysis reveals that culture plays a critical role in
digital transformation success, and by neglecting it, organizations risk failure. We also identified five critical
components of culture - corporate entrepreneurship, digital awareness, digital skills, ecosystem orientation,
and employee engagement - that must be incorporated into a digital transformation strategy for success. The
article concludes that organizations must develop a multi-faceted strategy that encompasses culture as a vital
component, and adequately measure and manage cultural aspects to achieve successful digital
transformation.
