Abstract

Healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, are at risk of experiencing burnout due to prolonged
stress and physical or emotional exhaustion. This study aimed to evaluate the level of burnout among nurses
in a tertiary care hospital in India and to compare the levels of burnout across different departments. Using the
Maslach Burnout Inventory survey tool, the study found that nurses experienced moderate levels of emotional
exhaustion, higher levels of depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. The study's findings suggest
that burnout is a significant issue for nurses, and that Indian nurses demonstrate different patterns of burnout
compared to those in developed countries. The study emphasizes the need to address life-work balance, coping
mechanisms, and stress management to reduce the burden of burnout among healthcare professionals.
