Abstract

The conflict in Syria has been ongoing for 12 years and has involved multiple regional and global players, making a resumption of the peace process challenging. The involvement of these players is driven by their need to protect their interests, which often prioritizes their strategic position over a peaceful resolution. This paper analyzes the current attitudes and approaches of major stakeholders towards a comprehensive peace process and examines the prospects for reducing hostilities and reopening peace negotiations, specifically in light of attempts by Turkey and other important players to restore ties and improve relations with the Syrian regime. The paper also highlights potential obstacles that must be overcome in the pursuit of successful rapprochement, ceasefire, and reconciliation efforts. By analyzing key indicators, the paper suggests that there is growing likelihood for the resumption of the peace process. Finally, the possible implications of renewed negotiations for the wider region are discussed
