A STUDY TO FIND OUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN URBANIZATION AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN GEOGRAPHICAL PERSPECTIVE

This study examines the relationship between urbanization and rural development from a
geographical perspective, with emphasis on sustainable development. The study acknowledges that
urbanization is not only limited to growth and development of cities but has significant impact on rural areas.
Using secondary data from government sources, census data, journals, books, newspapers, and the internet,
the study aims to identify the factors that differentiate rural and urban areas, understand the process and factors
behind urbanization, uncover the causes of rural-urban disparities, and propose strategies for sustainable
development. The study reveals that defining the disparity between rural and urban areas is challenging due
to the different definitions of urban areas used by governments and the treatment of rural areas as undefined
residuals. Urbanization is seen as an ongoing process, and it is projected that by 2020, 62% of the world's
population will reside in urban areas. Rural-urban migration, globalization, and mismanagement are the
leading causal factors behind urbanization, according to the research. The study proposes policy responses
and tools to manage urbanization and strategies for sustainable development, including investment in
education, connecting areas and regions, improving urban management, decentralizing and ensuring good
governance, empowering the poor, and introducing social safety nets.
